Weekend In Review – Tournaments Bounce Back

November 13, 2009 |

All major poker tournaments bounced back from a fairly terrible outing last week but three out of the four events still required an overlay to match their guarantee.

The PokerStars Sunday Million event had an increase of 248 players week to week, with the 6,993 players generating a prize pool worth $1,398,600.

No deal was struck during play at the final table, which is a rarity at this event, and jotaele1 managed to claim first place cheque worth $197,203. JHBrenes took home $99,301 for his second place finish.

Keeping the trend of the last 5 weeks, this was the sixth week in a row that the $750,000 Tournament at Full Tilt needed an overlay this week worth $29,400. Some good news was the fact that the attendance was up week to week, albeit by a mere 23 players.

First place was contested by Robbieoz and KGtheACE with the former delivering the final blow to his opponent to collect a huge $132,788 cheque. KGtheACE was left with a cheque for a respectable $80,250.

The best news of the weekend probably came from the UltimateBet camp where the $200,000 event reached a three month high when 967 players showed up for the tournament. That was a healthy increase of 192 players over the previous week. The overlay was a trivial $6,600.

The final table featured a host of online poker celebrities with Markus “LURPED” Gonsalves outlasting every single one of them to take the $45,000 first place prize.

This week, the Bodog $100,000 Guaranteed Tournament had the unfortunate distinction of experiencing the highest overlay worth $30,200. That is more than what the winner of this event was set to collect. The nice folks at Bodog can take heart that their event attracted 698 players, a nice bump from 618 the previous week.

Aaron “ImTheJackal” Hacker won the last pot of the tournament to trounce his opponent Al “alcarmo” Carmo. This is the second time ImTheJackal won the event and took home $23,600.
